Toronto police say a man who was stabbed in Etobicoke on Thursday morning ran to Greenholme Junior Middle School seeking help, prompting a hold and secure at the school.

In an update later Thursday afternoon, Acting Inspector Craig Young said the victim sought help at the elementary school just before 9 a.m., but said “at no time was the school at risk or the students at risk.”

“The school was put in a hold and secure as an abundance of caution. The school was never entered,” he said.

Young said the victim, a man in his 30s, had injuries to his upper body, and school staff called an ambulance.

He was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

The hold and secure at the school in the John Garland Boulevard and Jamestown Crescent area has since been lifted.

Young said police are still trying to determine where exactly the stabbing took place, noting that blood trails have been found on nearby Kendleton Drive, at a nearby park, and in the area surrounding the school.

No weapon has been recovered at this time.

Police say a suspect is in custody, but there’s no word on charges at this point.
