Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding drivers to use caution and common sense after dashcam video captured a car veering into the path of an oncoming transport truck on Monday, resulting in a violent crash.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said it happened on the Highway 403 eastbound ramp to Fairview Street in Burlington.
“The driver was on the shoulder travelling relatively slowly, turned in front of this transport truck as it was exiting to Fairview Street and (the truck) broadsided the vehicle,” Schmidt explained.

The driver, a 52-year-old woman, had to be extricated by Burlington Fire before being rushed to hospital.
Despite her mangled vehicle, an OPP update said her injuries were not serious.
“The entire crash was captured on dashcam and it does appear that the driver of this car turned right in front of the truck without giving them any fair warning,” Schmidt explained.
The video shows the black Toyota Corolla on the shoulder of the ramp, before it suddenly turns into the path of the truck, which obliterates the driver’s side of the vehicle.

“You can see the trauma and the impact that has resulted,” Schmidt said in a subsequent tweet as he surveys the damage.
Schmidt said the cause of the crash appears to be “driver error” noting there were no extenuating mechanical or weather issues that contributed to the crash.

The driver “veered across both lanes, looked like they were trying to get across to the other side to access the QEW Toronto-bound lanes,” he explained.
“Make sure any movements can be done in safety, sharing the road with others,” he advised.
“Be present, be a better driver.”
