TTC driver escapes serious injury after being shot with BB gun

Toronto police are searching for a group of people after a TTC driver was shot with a BB gun on Saturday night.

Police say the driver was waiting to take over a bus at Markham Road and Progress Avenue when he was shot at just before 6:30 p.m.

The driver was hit in the head and abdomen but did not suffer any serious injuries, according to police.

Investigators say the suspects drove off in a black sedan. They are described as male, possibly teenagers.

Toronto Mayor John Tory condemned the attack, saying anyone who threatens or inflicts violence on transit workers should face “the most serious of consequences for their actions.”

“I know police are working to arrest those who engaged in this shameful behaviour,” Tory tweeted. “Transit operators keep our city running 24/7 and they must be safe and feel safe at all times while they do their job.”
