It was another sizzling day in Toronto as temperatures hit the high 20s, breaking a record for a second straight day.
Just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, the temperature at Toronto Pearson soared to 28 C, breaking the record 27.1 C that was set 46 years ago in 1977.
The hot and humid weather is not done with the day just yet as the temperature could hit 30 C at Pearson.
The summer-like conditions started earlier this week and ramped up on Wednesday with the temperature soaring to 26 C at Toronto Pearson, breaking the record 25.8 C for April 12 set in 2001.
Thursday was the fourth day in a row that temperatures were into the 20s for Toronto and much of the GTA.
Toronto and the GTA could also break an 85-year-old temperature record on Friday. The forecast calls for a high of 24 C — the Toronto Pearson record for April 14 was 23.9 C set in 1938.
“This will be the peak of the heat and the humidity,” CityNews 680 meteorologist Jill Taylor said earlier in the day.
“We’ve had quite the stretch, we’ve had these 20-plus temperatures Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, likely into Friday, so a five-day stretch.”
Temperatures will be more seasonal on the weekend with highs near 17-18 C on Saturday and Sunday, with periods of rain on Sunday.
Taylor says cooler air returns on Monday with some showers and some areas could get wet flurries on Tuesday.
