Boy, 16, fatally stabbed by cousin at family gathering: Hamilton police

A 16-year-old boy is dead after he was stabbed at a family gathering in Hamilton on Sunday night. A 22-year-old man has since been arrested. Brandon Rowe reports.

A 16-year-old boy has been killed after being stabbed at a family gathering in East Mountain area, allegedly by his cousin.

Investigators were called to a home on Cadham Boulevard just after 10 p.m. after a 22-year-old family member allegedly stabbed the victim at a family gathering.

The victim was transported to hospital where he died of his injuries. Hamilton police say the victim and the suspect were cousins.

The incident took place inside the residence where the suspect lived during a gathering of around 12 to 15 people.

The suspect had fled the scene, but was located in a vehicle around 9 a.m. Monday morning following a tip from a community member.

As a result, Laureano Bistoyong has been charged with first-degree murder.

The name of the victim will not be released at the family’s request.

Investigators say there was an incident between the victim and the suspect earlier in the day prior to the stabbing, but would not provide any further details.
