Toronto police arrested a 26-year-old woman who allegedly stole deposits from people looking to rent apartments in the city.
Police say a woman, claiming to operate under the company names TorontoRental.org and LRLManagement, posted ads for apartment rentals on various websites between June and August of 2023.
Potential renters would provide deposits, but police say they were later told the apartment was no longer available.
According to investigators, it was later discovered the woman was not authorized to show up to rent the apartments.
Last week, police said they identified the suspect as Lariza Resendez Lopes of Toronto and released her photo as they tried to track her down.
In an update on Tuesday, investigators said the suspect was arrested and charged with eight counts of fraud under $5,000 and eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
She has a court date scheduled for May 6, 2024.
