Peel Regional Police officers say a woman has died after she was found with stab wounds in a central Mississauga hotel Monday morning.
Officers said they were called to the hotel at the intersection of Whittle Road and Britannia Road East, near Hurontario Street and Highway 401, just before 9:30 a.m.
The circumstances surrounding the incident weren’t immediately clear, but a spokesperson said the woman who is believed to be in her 50s was found in a room.
Investigators didn’t release suspect information, but the spokesperson said the male suspect was known to the victim.
Const. Richard Chin told reporters that officers are reviewing the hotel’s surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.
“This is a very tragic incident, but I think what we’re going to do is everything we can to locate this person who committed this crime,” he said while encouraging the suspect to contact a lawyer and surrender to officers.
The woman’s death marks the 12th homicide of 2024 in Peel Region.
