Homes and residences in a Vaughan neighbourhood were evacuated on Monday afternoon after explosive materials were discovered in a residence on Willis Drive.
Members of the York Regional Police Explosives Detection Unit were called in to remove the materials after they received a call from a concerned citizen who had come across a quantity of aged explosives found while cleaning the residence.
The incident is not considered to be suspicious as the explosives had apparently had been there for decades, left by a resident who had worked in the mining industry.
There is no word on when residents will be able to return to their homes.
Anyone who may come across firearms or explosives while cleaning or renovating a residence are asked to call police for their safe disposal.
