York officer shot, police confirm

A York Regional police officer, believed to be a male in his 40s, was shot on Thursday during an apparent robbery, police have confirmed with CityNews.

It happened around 9 p.m. at a shopping plaza at 140 – 1 Commerce Drive near Leslie and Wellington in Aurora. 

The officer’s injuries aren’t considered life-threatening and police reportedly have several suspects in custody.

According to a witness, one of the suspects was shot during the confrontation.  That hasn’t been confirmed by police.

“I know that the Bell store was robbed,” said Farrah, who works in the plaza at a Mr. Greek restaurant.  “I saw one of the suspects being arrested.  One of the police officers was shot in the wrist, we know that one of the suspects was shot in the head.”
