A man who cared for actor Ving Rhames’ dogs for almost two years was killed by the very animals he looked after.
Police say the 40-year-old victim lived on the property and worked as a caretaker at the Los Angeles home. He was among a number of people whose responsibilities included caring and feeding the dogs.
Three bull mastiffs and an English bulldog were seized by animal services on Friday after paramedics pronounced the unidentified victim dead at the scene.
“Two of those dogs appeared to be responsible for the tragic death,” says Officer Jason Lee, adding that several dogs remain at the property.
Authorities were called at around 7:15 am by someone reporting a dead body at the home in Brentwood. Police don’t know who made the call, when emergency workers arrived they found the man with a large number of bites and scratches, which appeared to be dog bites.
The victim was found on the front lawn and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Rhames, 46, is an action star best known for his roles in the “Mission Impossible” series and was not home at the time of the attack. The actor told Time magazine in 2001 that he had “eight Fila Brasileiro mastiffs – the national dog of Brazil, also used by U.S. Marines in jungle warfare.”
