Man charged after fleeing RIDE spot-check: police

A 33-year-old man faces impaired driving charges after he allegedly fled a RIDE spot-check and crashed early Thursday morning.

Police say the accused pulled a U-turn before he got to the stop and headed north in the southbound lanes. He then reportedly drove the wrong way on the northbound ramp, turned onto Eglinton Avenue West and crashed.

The man ran away, but police caught him a few blocks away. He was not hurt.

Police charged him with a number of offences, including impaired operation, impaired over 80, fail to remain and fail to stop.
