Man Accused Of Killing Pregnant Woman And Stabbing His Own Mother

Her name was Aysun Sesen and she was just 25 years old. She was two months away from giving birth to her first child.
His name is Turan Cocelli and he’s just 29 years of age. He was reportedly looking forward to being a father for the first time and has been described as Sesen’s common-law husband.
What police say happened between the two of them is a tragedy that has the neighbourhood reeling. Investigators were called to their home at 74 Whitburn Crescent in the Keele and Sheppard area at 1am Tuesday and found the mom-to-be suffering from two stab wounds to the chest. She was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save her. Sesen died in the ER while physicians tried desperately to keep the fetus alive. “An emergency caesarian section was done and the child was stillborn, unfortunately,” laments Det. Sgt. Gary Grinton.
Cops allege Cocelli was the attacker and contend his violence didn’t end there. A 44-year-old woman in the home was also knifed in the arm during the melee as she tried to intervene. Her name hasn’t been released but her relationship to the suspect has. She’s the mother of the accused killer.
She remains in hospital under sedation pending plastic surgery, and investigators are anxious to talk to her. “We have not been able to speak to her,” Grinton relates. “She also does not speak English.”
Cops aren’t saying much about their suspect, except that he was a carpenter and had been receiving compensation. They say they still don’t know what happened in that lonely darkness to set the chain of events in motion. “I had a conversation with him briefly and was not able to discover a motive,” Grinton admits.
But CityNews has learned Cocelli struggled with depression for years and was forced to move back to his folks’ North York home because he couldn’t cope on his own. It’s not clear if the couple was separating, but police say both still lived in the house with his parents.
Cocelli has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Neighbours are stunned by the turn of events. “I went outside … and I looked across the street and I saw the suspect come out handcuffed,” remembers a still shaken Jenny Frisone. “I also saw the mother come out. She had just blood everywhere.”
“They seemed pretty good to me,” Rose Keats adds about her neighbours. “He was there to give a helping hand if you needed one.”
Cops say they’d never been called to the house before and have no history with the pair.
While the suspect is facing counts on the two attacks, he won’t be charged with the death of the unborn infant. “Quite simply, it ‘s not possible,” Grinton explains. “The law in Canada doesn’t allow for the killing of an unborn fetus.”
That has caused new outrage for a crime that’s already beyond tragic. “That’s not fair because it’s a child,” complains Patricia Costa. “Like I went today, you know, for my own baby. There’s a heartbeat. It’s alive. It’s fully developed. It should have the opportunity to have a life.”
