Woman in critical condition after Chinatown stabbing

A woman is in hospital and a man is in custody after a stabbing in Chinatown Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the Chinese Traditional Bun on Dundas Street west of Spadina Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries when she was stabbed in the neck.

The attack happened in the restaurant’s kitchen. Both the woman and the man work at the restaurant, Toronto police said.

“I don’t know their employment history here, or what kind of relationship (they had)” said Sgt. Raj Patel. “All I know is that they both were employed here at this restaurant.”

Const. Tony Vella told CityNews said police still weren’t certain why the violence broke out.

“We’re speaking to the other employees to determine what happened. At this time, it looks like an argument broke out.”

Dundas streetcars were diverted for a few hours while police secured the scene.
