First phase of BC Place roof construction complete

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s taken months, but a major phase in the construction of the new roof at BC Place is now complete. With thirty-six huge supporting masts in place, the skyline will be changing once again.

Each mast is 50 metres in length and weighs approximately 240 tonnes.

PavCo President and CEO Warren Buckley says with the heavy-lifting phase over, one of the largest cranes in the country is now being moved out of the stadium. “The masts are pretty cluttered right now, there’s a lot of equipment on them, that will be removed and they’ll end up having a very slender sleek look.”

He says, “There’s a lot more room to maneuver, and to get some of the other equipment around and start working on the cabling structure, then the roof structure, then the retractable portion.”

He says the project is on budget and is still set to wrap up on schedule this fall.
