Arrest warrant issued for man that fled country after fatal hit-and-run in Mississauga

By Lucas Casaletto

Peel Regional Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man that allegedly fled the country after being involved in a hit-and-run that killed a woman in Mississauga.

Investigators say the incident happened on February 20, 2022, when a woman — 24-year-old Kavita Chodhary — was walking on Derry Road East and attempting to cross Cattrick Street.

Police say Chodhary was struck by the driver of a black 2009 Honda Accord, who fled the scene immediately after.

Chodhary was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man alleged to have been driving has been identified as 19-year-old Pawan Malik of Brampton.

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest under a charge of failing to stop after an accident resulting in death.

Investigators say Malik is believed to have fled the country after the fatal hit and run, and the Crown “intends to seek his extradition so that he may be prosecuted for the alleged offences.”

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the police.
