Bank employee stabbed several times in Chinatown

Toronto police say an employee at a BMO bank in Chinatown has been stabbed several times after a man entered armed with a knife.

Toronto police say an employee at a BMO bank in Chinatown has been stabbed several times after a man entered armed with a knife.

Officers were called to Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street just before 1 p.m. Monday to reports of a hold-up at the BMO bank, north of Dundas on the east side of the street.

A man reportedly jumped up on a counter in the bank, armed with a knife and stabbed an employee multiple times.

The lone suspect then fled the scene in car, possibly a taxi or rideshare vehicle, with some money. He’s described as a Black male wearing red shoes, blue jeans and a dark coat with white stripes/collar. He had a black backpack, red hoodie and was wearing a white mask and yellow touque.

He is considered armed and very violent, according to Const. David Hopkinson. He says the incident is being considered an attempted robbery.

Toronto paramedics say they transported a man to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The bank is currently closed, but people are still being let in to use the ATM vestibule.
