A man is in critical condition after a trench at a residential work site in North York collapsed on Monday morning.

Officers responded to a medical complaint at Warlock Crescent and Sawley Drive, near Bayview and Finch, around 10:50 a.m.

Police say a man became stuck and was knocked unconscious after the side of a trench he was working in collapsed.

Toronto Police Const. David Hopkinson tells CityNews that responding officers assisted medics in performing CPR on the victim.

He was transported to a local hospital via emergency run.

The Ministry of Labour has taken over the investigation and confirmed the man works for Rabcon.

“It was reported that a worker sustained injuries when they were buried in a trench,” a spokesperson said in an email.

“An inspector has been assigned.”
