A man in his 50s was arrested and sent to a hospital early Saturday morning after being injured during an interaction with police.
Officers were called to a residence in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East in North York just after 6:30 a.m. for reports of “unknown trouble.”
According to the province’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), when police arrived at the residence that morning “officers determined that a man had injured two family members.”
The SIU says the man was located inside the residence and “was in possession of edged weapons.”
“An interaction ensued, and one officer discharged his conducted energy weapon and another officer discharged his firearm,” the SIU added. “The man was not struck by the firearm discharge, and did not suffer any serious injury.”
The suspect was then arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
