Man seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Scarborough hit-and-run

A man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Scarborough.

Toronto police say they were called to Lawrence Avenue East, west of Scarborough Golf Club Road, just after 5 p.m. Thursday for reports that a pedestrian had been struck.

Paramedics tell CityNews a man was transported to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition. No age was provided, but first responders said it was an adult male.

Police said in an update Thursday night that the man’s injuries were now considered non-life threatening.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later located by officers in an underground parking garage of a Toronto Community Housing building in the area.

The driver was taken into custody and is facing charges, including failure to remain at the scene.
