Three years ago, 13-year-old Taylor Storch died after a terrible ski accident in Colorado but she lives on in the lives of five donor recipients.
Her parents, Todd and Tara Storch, decided to donate her organs.
“We knew in our heart because of the type of child Taylor was — such a giving, caring child — that that would be what she would would want,” Tara told 680News.
“We made that decision for her knowing in our hearts it was the right one.”
The couple is now sharing their story in a new book called Taylor’s Gift. The book chronicles the family’s loss but also celebrates life.
“It was a privilege to be able to be asked that question of ‘will you choose to donate your daughter’s organs? She’s a beautiful candidate for this. Would you consider that?'” Tara said.
“It was a privilege for us to say yes. It really was.”
The Texas couple has started a foundation called Taylor’s Gift to raise awareness about the need for organ donation. It also raises money to help support donor and recipient families.
“We really want to help change the conversation about organ donation because it’s not necessarily about death, it’s truly about lives,” Todd told 680News.
“There is good that can come out of bad things. It really is the love story that connects with people,” he said.
