Woman Found Sitting On Couch Six Years After She Died

Jordi Giro thought he had the deal of a lifetime. He purchased a new home in the Spanish coastal town of Roses for a song, after the bank foreclosed on the property because the previous owner hadn’t paid the mortgage. So he excitedly went to visit his new property last Saturday to check it out for fire damage, after a blaze affected some of the other homes in the same complex.
And that’s when he got the shock of his life. Sitting on the living room couch was the dead body of the ex-property owner. And she’d been there a while – six years. The woman, in her mid-50s, had apparently succumbed more than half a decade earlier but because she was estranged from her family and had few friends, no one ever bothered to check on her. As a result, she’d sat there undisturbed all that time, until Giro paid an almost accidental visit.
Experts claim the salty sea air prevented decomposition and that the victim had been mummified over the years. How could someone be there so long without anyone noticing? Officials explains the area is a vacation spot that experiences a high turn-over of travellers, so nobody was there long enough to notice someone missing or anything awry. It’s almost impossible to conceive that someone from the bank never stopped by to see what was delaying the payments, but no one ever did.
The town’s mayor has his own explanation for the bizarre discovery. Carles Paramo claims the housing development is one in which “people are not minding other people’s business.” There’s no word on when or if Giro actually plans to move in. But if he does, he might want to let someone know where he’s gone. Just in case.
