Richard Molto wasn’t about to let himself become the city’s latest victim of crime.
The GTA man, who only has the use of one arm, was making a deposit to a TD Canada Trust ATM Thursday morning when he was approached by a man wielding a knife.
“He said, ‘Give it to me,'” Molto explained to CityNews in an exclusive interview. “(He) showed me a knife and said it’s not worth getting killed. I handed him the money. Then he said, ‘Can I get the keys to your vehicle?’ I said ‘Leave my vehicle, just take the money and run.’ I let him get a head start and (then) started chasing him down the road.”
Molto pursued the man down Victoria Park Ave. until police arrived in the area and arrested him.
Andrew Dwayne Brown, 24, faces 14 robbery and weapons-related charges in this case and three similar east end holdups. Durham Regional Police are also apparently interested in speaking with him following similar robberies there.
As a reminder, police advise victims not to pursue suspects themselves but to contact authorities.
