Authorities continue to search for suspects in two apparently separate shootings that claimed the life of an 18 year old and injured another young man the same age on Christmas Day. The violent incidents reportedly occurred within two hours.
Officers were called to an apartment building at 200 Woolner Ave. in the Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue area, around 4pm Saturday where they discovered the bullet-riddled body of an 18 year old in a fourth floor hallway. The young man had been shot twice in the head and once in the arm and was pronounced dead in hospital. The murder is the city’s 60th of the year.
The victim was reportedly visiting his father in the building and was murdered as he stepped out to go buy a calling card to telephone his mother in Grenada.
Toronto Police Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan said the victim was known to authorities.
“This young man … appears to have been ambushed,” he said.
No suspect descriptions have been released yet and no weapon was found at the scene.
Ryan said officers canvassed the apartment building and investigators are poring over surveillance footage.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll find out who did this,” he said.
And less than two hours earlier another teen was the target of gun violence. This time the bullets rang out a short distance away at Dundas and Scarlett Road.
Shots were reportedly fired in front of a commercial building. The gunman took off in a dark-coloured vehicle just after 2pm, according to a published report.
The 18 year old victim was hit in the leg.
