SIU investigating after man falls from Etobicoke apartment

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a man fell from an apartment near Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

Toronto police were called to Fontenay Court around 1:45 p.m.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. It’s not clear if the man fell or jumped.

A woman who lives in the apartment told CityNews her husband was at home when the man fell. He says that a man in his 20s was on the roof of the building threatening to jump and police were called.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

It’s the third time in 12 days the SIU has been called in following a fall from a highrise.

Dale Anthony Chatrie, 21, died early Friday morning. At 8:50 a.m., Toronto police officers responded to a call on the 15th floor of a building on Shuter near Berkeley Street.

They heard shouting on arrival, and a short time later found a man on the ground floor without vital signs. Chatrie was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Dec. 29, Pardeep Singh Mann, 31, fell 12 storeys from the 21st floor of a Scarborough condo while police were there looking for him.
