Man charged with stealing from women he dated online

A 37-year-old man is facing numerous fraud-related charges after police allege he lured victims through online dating websites, stealing more than $40,000.

Jason Porter contacted several single women online between May and November in 2011. After dating them for a short time and gaining their trust, he would open bank accounts and apply for credit cards in their names, police allege.

Police say he broke up with the women before they became aware of the alleged fraudulent activity.

Porter is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
