Former Maple Leaf Matt Stajan has taken a personal leave from the Calgary Flames after the death of his newborn son.
In a statement released by the organization on Sunday, the Flames said that Emerson Stajan passed away on Monday following childbirth.
The team went on to extend their condolences to the Stajan family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and Matt at this difficult time. We appreciate that everyone has and will continue to respect their privacy during this period,” the statement read.
Stajan began his NHL career with the Maple Leafs in 2004 and remained with the team until he was traded to Calgary in 2010.
