Eight Mississauga soccer fields will be closed for at least 12 weeks due to the damage caused by the extreme harsh winter.
Laura Piette, head of Mississauga’s parks and forestry department, said “we lost over 85 per cent of the turf” at those soccer fields because of the snow, the ice storm and flash freezing.
The said that work to repair those damaged fields and re-establish playable turf will depend on weather conditions.
City officials and the six local organizations will meet on Aug. 4 to get an update on the soccer fields.
But luckily there are more than 250 soccer fields where the city’s 20,000 registered soccer players can punt the ball.
