Ontario reports 1,791 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, 18 new deaths

Ontario reported 1,791 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, a decrease from the 1,829 cases reported on Saturday.

The province also reported 18 new coronavirus-related fatalities, bringing the total death count to 7,241 people.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said most of the new cases are in Toronto (495), followed by Peel Region (350), York Region (177) and Durham Region (106).

She added that nearly 49,200 tests have been completed and 1,521,705 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 328,874, with 307,403 cases considered resolved.

The province is expanding its COVID-19 immunization campaign to include residents aged 75 and older as of Monday.

Certain pharmacies and family doctors in select regions will also be permitted to give the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot to residents aged 60 and older.
