Two men have been arrested in connection with two similar carjackings that happened earlier this year in North York.
In the first incident on February 11 near Weston Road and Sheppard Avenue, two men went to a parking lot for a pre-arranged meeting with two other individuals when one of them pulled out a handgun and demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle before driving off.
On Thursday, police arrested Duong Dai Nguyen, 31, of Mississauga who is now facing several charges including robbery with a firearm and theft of a motor vehicle.
Police are still searching for a second suspect in connection with this incident.
The second incident occurred on March 21 in the Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East area when a man met two others in a parking lot as part of a pre-arranged meeting. The suspects each produced knives and demanded the keys to the victim’s car. A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed several times before the suspects eventually made off with his car.
Police managed to determine the identity of one of the suspects and on Thursday, 34-year-old Kevin Laing of Toronto with arrested and charged with aggravated assault, robbery and disguise with intent.
A second male suspect remains at large.
