Winter weather travel advisory in effect for Toronto and GTA

The weekend will open with a bit of snow, as high as 3 cm in Toronto, with an eye on a potentially significant winter storm that could come next week. Here are the details and what to expect.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, York and Durham.

Environment Canada says a band of heavy lake effect snow is forecast to move into the area on Saturday morning, bringing with it persistent snow for several hours.

The national weather service says it expects local accumulations of up to 5 cm with periods of heavy snow which will reduce visibility at times.

“This is isolated to this morning and then it will be rather quieter for the second part of the day,” says CityNews 680 weather specialist Denise Andreacchi. “Clearing out to see a bit more sunshine on Sunday (but) we’ve got snow on the way for Monday, five to 10 cm and some mixed precipitation into Tuesday as well.”

The high today is expected to reach minus-2 with temperatures expected to climb up to 3 C on Sunday.
