Weekend need to know: motionball Gala, ‘The Office Experience’; road closures

The 21st annual motionball Gala in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation returns to Exhibition Place, as well as a new interactive experience at Yorkdale mall showcasing a replica from the iconic comedy series The Office.
A winter storm set to arrive ahead of the weekend and ongoing road closures may interfere with people going to and from events. Scroll below for those details.
A section of Line 1 was supposed to be shut down this weekend due to TTC work but that since been cancelled due to the forecasted storm.
Here’s what’s going on this weekend:
Top events
motionball Gala
The motionball Gala returns this Friday from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at Liberty Grand located at Exhibition Place.
The gala aims to raise $300,000 net for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.
The event includes an evening full of entertainment with eight acts across two ballrooms, including performances from DJ Dxb, DJ Clymaxxx, CELLA, Cary Shields, Dr. Draw & Scott Jackson, and more.
This year’s host is Breakfast Television’s Devo Brown.

‘The Office Experience’
The Office fans can now enter a replica of Dunder Mifflin at Yorkdale Mall.
‘The Office Experience’ opens at the mall on Friday and runs until June 4.
Time slots for the interactive experience will be available every 30 minutes:
- Thursdays & Fridays: 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Saturdays: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Sundays: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The experience features a number of areas filled with original props, costumes, and set recreations.
Recreations include Pam’s desk, Michael’s office, and reliving fan-favourite moments like Kevin’s chili spill episode.

Newcomers ‘Learn to Skate’ event
Social and travel club Boujee Adventures is hosting a ‘Learn to Skate’ event at Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Experienced ice skaters will be paired with newcomers to Canada and other newbies to teach them basic ice skating skills.

Interactive Photo Exhibition & Silent Auction in the Junction
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, The Junction BIA, is hosting what they’re calling an Interactive Photo Exhibition & Silent Auction featuring archival Junction photography from 100 years ago.
Each image is accompanied by informative signage with one of the photographs being animated with augmented reality.
The exhibit runs for the entire month of March at Latitude 44 Gallery Framing Decor, located at 2900 Dundas St. W.
Silent auction bids will be accepted in person up until 6 p.m. on March 31, during retail hours.

GloRilla at Rebel
Grammy-nominated rapper GloRilla will be taking over ‘Winter Wonderland’ at Rebel nightclub on Saturday.
‘Winter Wonderland’ is a weekly winter-themed night featuring live entertainment at the venue.

Road closures
Ongoing closures
- Westbound Queen from Yonge to Bay streets, the right lane will be closed until late 2023 for work on the Ontario Line.
- Military Trail is closed from Ellesmere Road to Highcastle Road for road rehabilitation and slope stabilization. The project completion date has been delayed to the summer.
- Keele Street is reduced to a single lane about 100 metres north of Langstaff in Vaughan. Construction work is scheduled to finish in the spring.
- East and Westbound Queen Street is reduced to one lane between Bay Street and Yonge Street for work on a hydro vault. Work is expected to be completed in March.
- Northbound Yonge Street is reduced to one lane between Wellington and King Streets for TTC construction. The project is scheduled to continue into 2024.
- Bloor Street is impacted by long-term construction, which is behind schedule, between Parliament and Sherbourne streets.
