Three additional male victims have come forward, alleging they were sexually assaulted by a former elementary school teacher in Burlington between 1983 and 1987.
Halton police opened the investigation in June 2022 after a male victim told investigators he was sexually assaulted in 1982-1983 while he was a Grade 8 student attending Pineland Public School in Burlington. The man claimed the woman was his teacher at the time.
In February 2023, a second male victim came forward alleging he, too, was sexually assaulted by the same teacher in Grade 8 at Pineland Public School in 1983-1984.
Investigators noted that the sexual assaults happened at the school.
Barbara Baxter, now 86, of Burlington, was arrested in February and charged with sexual assault and acts of gross indecency.
She’s facing an additional three charges of sexual assault and one added charge of acts of gross decency that were laid against the accused on Tuesday. Halton police said the latter charge was laid because the offence happened prior to the statutory amendments to the Criminal Code in 1983. She was released on an undertaking.
Before being employed by the Halton District School Board (HDSB), Baxter worked for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB). As a result, investigators believe there may be additional victims.
