Teen girls, young boy arrested in separate Toronto carjackings

Two teenage girls and a 14-year-old boy were arrested in recent days after separate attempted carjackings across Toronto.

In the first incident, Toronto police responded to a robbery call in the Dundas Street West and Scarlett Road area in the city’s west end on Friday, June 9.

Police said two girls ordered a ride-share to the area, and when they arrived, one girl got out and threatened the driver with a knife while demanding the car keys.

After a brief struggle, the driver received a small cut but was able to flee with the keys. Police said the two girls fled the area.

The two girls were arrested a short time later, and police said responding officers recovered a knife in the girls’ possession.

A 16-year-old girl from Toronto was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon and disguise with intent. The second girl, a 15-year-old from Toronto, was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent, assault with a weapon and dangerous weapons.

The girls were not identified due to the province’s Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Young boy charged in violent Rexdale carjacking

In the other reported incident, police responded to reports of a shooting in the Kipling Avenue and Rowntree Road area in Rexdale on Sunday, June 11.

It’s alleged that a ride-share driver dropped off a fare in the area, and as the customer got out, a boy got in the back seat and pointed a gun at the driver demanding the car keys.

Police said the boy then shot the driver in the head. The driver fled to a nearby building, but the boy gave chase and caught up with the driver when he fell to the ground.

The boy then stood over the driver shooting him several times before fleeing empty-handed. The driver was taken to hospital, and it was determined he had been shot with a pellet gun.

Police arrested the boy later that day. During the arrest, officers recovered the pellet handgun used during the robbery, among other items.

A 14-year-old boy from Brampton is facing several charges, including robbery with an offensive weapon, aggravated assault, using an imitation firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, dangerous weapons and failing to comply with the release order.

The youth was expected to appear in court on Monday.

The accused was not identified as a result of the YCJA.
