Tow truck driver seriously injured in Scarborough shooting, police say

Toronto police are investigating a shooting in Scarborough that injured one man early Tuesday evening.

Officers were called to a gas station in the area of Kennedy Road and Progress Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. for reports of a man who was shot inside a vehicle.

The man was located with a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police confirmed with 680 NewsRadio that the victim is a tow truck driver.

No suspect description was provided. An investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, police launched “Project Dodger” to combat increasing tow truck violence and a recent rise in shootings believed to be related to turf wars.

Authorities shared statistics related to tow truck crimes in the city, highlighting that in 2024, tow truck-related disputes were connected to 63 firearm discharge and shooting incidents, making up nearly 13 per cent of all shootings in Toronto.
