Major construction project on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga to begin Wednesday

By Kyle Hocking

Motorists on Highway 401 eastbound in Mississauga will need to prepare themselves for a week’s worth of slow commutes due to construction.

The express lanes of the highway from east of Winston Churchill Boulevard to approaching Mavis Road were supposed to be closed at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

However, the construction company told CityNews they ran into issues and the closure was delayed until 9:30 p.m.

The express lanes will remain closed until next Wednesday, June 28, and reopen at 5 a.m.

The collector lanes remain open through the area.

A notice from West Corridor Constructors – the consortium responsible for the recent expansion project on Highway 401 in Milton and Mississauga – said the closure is needed to “facilitate construction activities as part of remaining seasonal works.”

A spokesperson for Aecon Group told CityNews part of the work includes resurfacing in the area east of Mississauga Road.

“Crews will be working on structural and finishing works including paving activities at the CP Rail bridge” spokesperson Bella Santos said.
