Canada Dominates Russia At Super Series

This was no Summit Series.

Hockey fans may recall the bitter competitiveness that marked the 72′ series between Canada and Russia , but the eight-game Super Series between junior-aged players has been a sadly one-side affair.  Canada clinched the debacle with their fifth straight win, 8-1 over the reeling Russains Tuesday.

Gatineau Olympiques forward Claude Giroux scored twice before 13,563 fans at MTS Centre.

It was the first game on Canadian ice after four games in Russia .  The two teams will meet again Wednesday in Saskatoon , Friday in Red Deer , Alta., and Sunday in Vancouver .

Logan Pyett, David Perron, Sam Gagner, Zac Boychuk, Zach Hamill and Kyle Turris also scored for Canada .

The juniors sported replica 1972 jerseys for the game, but that’s all that resembled the bitter, closely fought tournament that made hockey history.
