A bizarre incident in traffic in the heart of the downtown core has led to police making an arrest, a man hanging onto his vehicle for dear life and a major traffic jam at the height of rush hour.
It started near Bay and Bloor around 4pm, when someone tried to steal a tow truck sitting at the busy intersection. The owner of the vehicle saw what was going on and in a panic, leaped to grab his truck before it could be driven away. He hung onto it even as it began to cruise off without him, with the victim getting dragged for a distance before finally being forced to let go.
The vehicle was finally found around Avenue Road and Dupont (top left.)
The owner is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but traffic was seriously hurt. Part of Bloor near Yonge was shut down and so was Bay and Bloor. That created a huge backlog as drivers were forced to divert around all the roadblocks.
The good news is that police were able to catch up to the truck and have now towed a suspect into custody for questioning.
