Vehicle sought in fatal hit-and-run

By News Staff

A 45-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a downtown hit-and-run two weeks ago has died.

Emergency crews were called to the Dundas Street East and Sherbourne Street area just after 4 a.m. on Aug. 15.

Toronto police said the woman, for reasons not yet known, stepped onto Dundas and lay down on the roadway.

According to police, the driver of a light-coloured minivan, which was heading eastbound on Dundas, was able to avoid hitting the woman but a dark-coloured SUV behind the minivan struck the woman.

The SUV then drove away from the scene. Police said the driver of the SUV may not have been aware that a woman was struck.

The woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died in hospital.

The SUV has been described as a dark-coloured 2014-2017 Dodge Durango Citadel, with tinted windows.

Police have released security video of the vehicle.

As well, images of a similar truck have been released by police.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at approximately 4:05 a.m., and who has any information, to contact police.
