North York Jewish school closing its doors after 2 staff test positive

By Michael Ranger

A Toronto Orthodox Jewish school that was supposed to reopen today is now staying closed indefinitely.

Two staff members at Yeshiva Yesodai Hatorah have unexpectedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The school, located in the Bathurst and Lawrence area, was going to be one of the first in the city to start classes.

“It pains us to announce that school will not reopen tomorrow as scheduled,” wrote the school in a letter to parents. ‘This was not an easy decision to make.”

In the letter the school says Toronto Public Health is going to do a risk assessment and assist with establishing protocols on when they can move towards opening.

The school’s executive director, Benjamin Septon says no children have been exposed to the virus.
