Police warn of ‘dangerous condition’ as large sinkhole forms on Mississauga roadway

By Patricia D'Cunha

As a major winter storm is about to barrel through the GTA creating hazardous driving conditions, road crews are working to fix a massive sinkhole in Mississauga that would have posed a danger to drivers in that area.

Police were called to a commercial area on Matheson Boulevard near Explorer Drive around 8:15 a.m. on Friday and shut down the roadway in both directions, warning of a “dangerous condition.”

City workers were dispatched to fix the sinkhole but it is not yet known how long it will take to repair.

No injuries were reported. The area mostly houses office buildings and industrial complexes.

However, work could be hampered by the incoming storm that is expected to blanket Toronto and the GTA with “rapidly accumulating snow” ahead of weekend.

The snow should start around 5 p.m. Friday with the heaviest of it expected between 8 and 10 p.m. There is the potential for up to 30 centimetres of accumulation in parts of the GTA by early Saturday.
