A woman and a dog are dead, and a man was seriously injured after multiple suspects entered a home and opened fire in Markham on Friday morning.
York Regional Police said officers were called to a residence on Solace Road near Castlemore Avenue around 6:30 a.m.
A man and a woman were shot and transported to a hospital, where the woman was later pronounced dead. She has been identified as 20-year-old Nilakshi Raguthas.
A 26-year-old man is recovering from serious non-life threatening injuries.
A German Shepherd was also shot at the home and killed, police confirmed with CityNews.
Authorities noted that at least two suspects fled the area in a newer model four-door black Acura TLX.
Authorities say the shooting was targeted and are not releasing any further information about the victims at this time.

Police have responded to Markham address several times in years past
CityNews spoke to a neighbour who speculated that the homeowner who was targeted in the shooting is connected to the towing industry and has previously witnessed tow trucks parked in the front driveway.
“That’s what we hear,” the resident said. “Cops have told us it’s something to do with tow trucks.”
A YRP spokesperson would not confirm whether the shooting homicide was linked to a tow truck turf war, only stating that “all motives are being investigated.”
Police informed CityNews that officers have responded to this Markham address several times for reports of gunfire, most recently in 2024.
In March 2024, the home on Solace Road was repeatedly targeted in separate shootings. The same Markham residence was riddled with bullets in two similar incidents, both during the day, on Feb. 28, 2024, and March 8, 2024.
“It’s no secret. We’ve been on the news before,” the neighbour said. “We just want a safe street to live on. Nobody wants this on anyone’s street [or] in anyone’s neighbourhood. Of course, it’s frustrating.”
Investigators have since maintained a heavy presence in the area.
“I don’t know what the solution is,” the resident said. “Today is a sad day.”
