About Denio
Denio Lourenco is a multimedia journalist with CityNews Toronto.
Before joining the team, Denio worked as a digital content editor at CTV National News, where he covered major events, like the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol insurrection, federal elections, natural disasters and mass shootings, but he specializes in writing about LGBTQ2S+ issues, crime and politics.
Denio holds a master's degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he graduated from in 2018. He also studied political science and gender studies at the University of Toronto.
Throughout his career, Denio has held various positions in television, podcasting and digital news. He was an associate producer on the CBC documentary series, “The Big Sex Talk” in 2022, and before that he worked as a video editor for HuffPost Canada. His writing has appeared in multiple local and national news outlets, including The Globe and Mail, Vice and NBC News.
In 2021, his investigation into the mistreatment of transgender people in the Canadian prison system was a finalist at the Digital Publishing Awards. His reporting was also adapted into a documentary for OutTV called “Surviving The Block.”
Denio speaks English and Portuguese.
